Atelier Wen has unveiled its latest creation, the Millésime Perception Xuán, a compelling evolution of its acclaimed Perception series. This new iteration distinguishes itself with a stunning pietersite stone dial, moving away from the brand's signature guilloché. This article explores the innovative design, robust specifications, and the brand's unique approach to making this timepiece accessible to its dedicated fanbase.
The Millésime Perception Xuán retains the robust and ergonomic design that has made the Perception a favorite among enthusiasts. The timepiece features a 40mm diameter, 47mm lug-to-lug, and a slim 9.4mm thick case, all crafted from resilient 904L stainless steel. Its impressive water resistance of 100 meters, coupled with a double-domed sapphire crystal boasting ten layers of anti-reflective coating, ensures durability for everyday wear. The integrated bracelet, known for its superb finish, includes quick-release spring bars and a micro-adjustment clasp, allowing for effortless adjustments.
A notable departure from previous Perception models is the replacement of the intricately engraved guilloché dial with a captivating pietersite stone. This material, a variety of chalcedony, is celebrated for its dynamic blend of blue and brown hues, reminiscent of tiger's and hawk's eye stones. Atelier Wen specifically chose pietersite due to its natural deposits in China and its ability to evoke the imagery of traditional Chinese landscape gardens, with the blues representing spring water and the browns symbolizing mountainous terrains. The meticulous production process involves hand wire-cutting holes for polished indexes in Zhejiang, followed by a delicate polishing phase in Guangdong, resulting in dials that are unique and deeply textured.
The visual appeal of pietersite is truly remarkable, offering a rich tapestry of dark and smoky light elements that create an almost ethereal depth. This stunning dial is complemented by thoughtful design elements such as applied indexes, luminous hands, and a glowing huiwen-patterned chapter ring, all designed to enhance readability without detracting from the stone's inherent beauty. The watch is powered by the dependable Chinese Dandong SL1588A automatic movement, which provides a 41-hour power reserve and operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Each movement is carefully adjusted to maintain an accuracy of ±10 seconds per day. The movement's partial display window on the case back reveals intricate finishes, including “côtes circulaires”, polished screw sinks, blued screws, and a tungsten rotor with a black rhodium plating.
In response to feedback from collectors regarding the challenges of acquiring limited edition releases, Atelier Wen has implemented a new ordering strategy for the Millésime Perception Xuán.
