First Ray Films Unveils Ambitious Six-Picture Slate at Cannes Film Market

Instructions

First Ray Films, a Mumbai-based production house founded by actor-filmmaker Anshuman Jha, is set to commemorate its second decade in the industry by unveiling an impressive lineup of six cinematic projects at the upcoming Cannes Film Market in May. This strategic move highlights the company's commitment to independent filmmaking and its ambition to broaden its international reach, with films slated for release from 2026 through 2028.

The company's upcoming releases include two films scheduled for theatrical debut in India this year: 'Om Ka Hari,' a film directed by Harish Vyas and featuring Jha, Raghubir Yadav, Soni Razdan, and Ayesha Kapur, is set for a June release. Following this, Jha will direct 'Lakadbaggha 2: The Monkey Business,' a continuation of his 2023 vigilante series, which will star Adil Hussain and Sarah Jane Dias and is expected to hit screens in November. For 2027, the pipeline includes 'Bajrangi,' currently in post-production under Parth Saurabh's direction, and 'Bhadyaa,' helmed by Pramod Parashar, which is currently in production. Looking ahead to 2028, two additional titles are planned: 'But First, The Burning,' an international co-production with Roh Films and Lamas Productions directed by Devashish Makhija, and 'Dhoori,' directed by Rumana Molla. Since its inception in 2016 with Shashi Sudigala's 'mona_darling,' a social media thriller, First Ray Films has established a reputation for nurturing unique directorial perspectives and strengthening its distribution capabilities within the Indian independent film sector.

First Ray Films' presence at Cannes signifies a major push to connect with international co-production partners and secure theatrical distribution beyond the Indian subcontinent, marking a pivotal moment for the company's global aspirations. This initiative underscores the growing trend of Indian independent filmmakers seeking broader global exposure for their work, further integrating Indian cinema into the international film landscape.

The proactive approach taken by First Ray Films at the Cannes Film Market exemplifies a forward-thinking vision within the film industry, emphasizing that artistic integrity and commercial viability can coexist. By championing diverse narratives and empowering emerging talent, the company not only contributes to the rich tapestry of global cinema but also inspires a new generation of filmmakers to pursue their visions with courage and conviction, demonstrating the profound impact of storytelling that transcends cultural boundaries.
