Introducing the Toledano & Chan Oshinobi: A Diamond-Set Secret Watch

Oct 08, 2026, 11:51 PM

Toledano & Chan, known for their horological designs, unveil their latest creation, the Oshinobi, blending brutalist aesthetics with the allure of hidden luxury. This timepiece draws inspiration from the concept of concealment, where a striking internal beauty is shielded by an understated exterior. The Oshinobi is poised to captivate collectors with its innovative design and a fascinating blend of art and engineering.

The Oshinobi represents a novel interpretation of the 'secret watch' tradition. Its most distinctive feature is a sliding cover that elegantly retracts to unveil a captivating dial. This dial is uniquely shaped, concave, and adorned with two carats of snow-set diamonds, creating a sparkling, organic spectacle reminiscent of a geode. The crown is discreetly positioned on the underside of the case at 12 o'clock, further enhancing its clandestine nature. This design allows the wearer to possess a jewel of horology without overtly displaying its opulence, catering to a desire for subtle luxury.

Phil Toledano, one of the creative minds behind the brand, emphasizes the watch's philosophical underpinnings. He notes that the Oshinobi offers a 'secret joy'—the pleasure of knowing one is wearing a diamond-studded watch while maintaining an appearance of simplicity. This concept directly addresses contemporary concerns about overt displays of wealth and safety, offering a sophisticated solution for luxury enthusiasts. The watch’s name, 'O-shinobi,' a Japanese term for high-ranking individuals traveling discreetly, perfectly encapsulates this ethos of hidden grandeur.

Crafted from sandblasted grade 5 titanium, the Oshinobi's case resembles a robust, architectural bracelet. Its 21mm width, consistent throughout, and a hidden butterfly clasp contribute to its unassuming appearance. Only upon closer inspection from the side does the depth required for its intricate movement become apparent, resembling futuristic armored plating. The oscillating link pattern, mirroring that of their acclaimed b/1 model, creates a jagged, almost razor-like edge, making it appear more like an art piece than a conventional timepiece.

The Oshinobi also signifies a pivotal evolution for Toledano & Chan in terms of movement. Unlike previous models that often utilized Sellita movements, the Oshinobi incorporates a manually-wound calibre from Le Temps Manufactures. This change was necessitated by the watch's compact 21mm case, requiring a smaller, yet equally refined, mechanism. The decision reflects a commitment to elevating both the artistic and mechanical aspects of their creations. While specific details of the LTM calibre remain undisclosed, its hand-finished and assembled nature promises a superior quality that will undoubtedly appeal to discerning collectors.

The prototype Oshinobi, engraved with 'TIME FOR ART,' will make its debut at the Phillips TimeForArt charity auction on December 5, 2026. This initial presentation will be followed by a limited production release of the Toledano & Chan Oshinobi in 2027, with further details on pricing and availability to be announced. This new offering reaffirms Toledano & Chan’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of watch design, seamlessly integrating artistic vision with horological innovation.
