Jacob & Co Introduces The Godfather II Double Melody Musical Timepiece

Instructions

Jacob & Co has consistently carved a distinctive niche within the horological world, celebrated for its bold designs and intricate mechanical innovations. Among its notable creations, the Godfather watch stands out, drawing inspiration from Francis Ford Coppola's acclaimed film. Building on this legacy, the brand now introduces the Godfather II Double Melody Musical Timepiece, a new interpretation that echoes the original's blend of visual drama and auditory artistry. This latest release, announced just before Geneva Watch Week, promises an arresting experience, combining a sophisticated movement with an integrated musical function that sets it apart in the realm of high-end watchmaking.

This innovative timepiece is a testament to Jacob & Co's commitment to pushing boundaries, offering a watch that not only tells time but also narrates a story through its design and melodies. The new model builds upon the foundation of its predecessor, enhancing its musical capabilities and presenting it in a refined, yet distinct, aesthetic. With its limited availability and significant price point, the Godfather II is positioned as a collector's item, embodying both artistic expression and masterful engineering, truly a unique fusion in the world of luxury watches.

A Symphony of Time and Melody

The latest Jacob & Co Godfather II watch redefines the concept of musical timepieces, presenting an evolution of its original design. This iteration, while retaining the essence of its predecessor, introduces a fresh aesthetic with a curved, rectangular case that is both elegant and substantial, measuring 42mm x 44mm. It replaces the triple-axis tourbillon with a flying tourbillon, a technical marvel that regulates the movement. However, the most significant advancement lies in its musical capabilities, allowing the watch to play not one, but two world-renowned compositions from "The Godfather" soundtrack: "The Godfather Love Theme" and "The Godfather's Waltz." This dual-melody feature is exceedingly rare in wristwatches, marking a new milestone in horological musicality.

At the heart of this intricate mechanism is the JCAM62 calibre, a hand-wound movement comprising 510 components, excluding the music drum pins. It features a miniature music box engineered with a precision-tuned steel comb and a pin-studded brass cylinder. The 18 distinct teeth of the comb vibrate to produce specific notes, while a selector mechanism shifts the cylinder laterally by less than a millimeter to switch between melodies. When activated, a small lid on the dial side lifts to reveal the rolling drum, creating a captivating visual and auditory display that lasts for 15-20 seconds per activation. The watch's rose gold case is equipped with two pushers: one at 8 o'clock to activate the melody and another at 10 o'clock to select between the two tunes, with the active melody indicated on the black lacquer dial.

Cinematic Craftsmanship and Technical Excellence

Beyond its innovative musical function, the Jacob & Co Godfather II watch is a masterpiece of design, meticulously crafted to honor the iconic film. The rose gold case is adorned with intricate details, including spiral grooves on the crown reminiscent of a gun barrel and Don Corleone’s rose motif elegantly engraved on the case band. The ink-black lacquer dial, protected by a curved, domed sapphire crystal, features a striking portrait of Marlon Brando as Don Corleone, alongside the movie's signature puppet strings, evoking the film's powerful imagery. The reverse side of the watch further enhances the cinematic theme with bullet-hole engravings and a piano-shaped sapphire opening, offering a glimpse into the music box comb and a plate engraved with the actual score of "The Godfather Love Theme."

The JCAM62 calibre is not only musically advanced but also technically robust, regulated by a flying tourbillon operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour. It incorporates two separate barrels: one for time indication, providing a 72-hour power reserve, and another for the music box, enabling 8 to 10 melody activations. Each barrel is wound independently via the crown, and their respective power reserves are indicated through unique openings on the dial—a gear symbol at 4 o'clock for the movement and a rose/music note symbol at 8 o'clock for the melody. This limited edition of 74 pieces, commemorating the release year of "The Godfather Part II," is presented on a black alligator leather strap with a rose gold folding buckle, retailing at USD 440,000, underscoring its exclusivity and exceptional artistry.
