Together, they established SilverBridges, a company dedicated to revitalizing the iconic Widelux camera, whose original manufacturing facilities were lost to a fire over two decades ago. Bridges, known for his deep affection for the Widelux, envisioned introducing its distinctive panoramic capture capabilities to a contemporary generation of film photographers.
The SilverBridges team embarked on an ambitious endeavor, meticulously reverse-engineering components, manufacturing new parts, and refining the timeless Widelux aesthetic for today's market. Their creation, the WideluxX F10, is engineered to deliver the expansive panoramic images characteristic of its predecessor, all within a meticulously handcrafted, premium build. This 35mm film camera incorporates a unique moving 26mm f/2.8 integrated lens, designed to sweep exposures across a 24 x 58mm frame. Consequently, a standard 36-exposure film roll will yield approximately 21 panoramic shots. The camera boasts three distinct shutter speeds—1/15, 1/125, and 1/250 seconds—a 140-degree viewing angle, and a fixed focus range from 1.5 meters (approximately five feet) to infinity. Weighing around 880 grams (or 1.9 pounds), this fully mechanical analog camera combines vintage charm with modern precision.
Photographers eager to own a piece of this photographic rebirth can now secure their WideluxX F10 for $4,400. The initial production run is limited to 350 units, with the first cameras anticipated to ship within six to eight months. The company estimates a further four to six months will be needed to complete this inaugural production phase. Each camera will be custom-built for its owner, offering optional engraved initials and additional customization choices that will become available as production progresses.
