Celebrating George Daniels: A Centennial Exhibition of Horological Masterpieces

Oct 20, 2026, 6:11 PM

In honor of what would have been George Daniels' 100th birthday, an extraordinary exhibition, "George Daniels 100," is set to captivate enthusiasts of fine watchmaking. This special event will feature a collection of 22 of Daniels’ most remarkable timepieces, a truly rare assembly given his limited lifetime production of only 24 pocket watches and two wristwatches. Among the highlights will be the historic reunion of Daniels' original Space Traveller I and his cherished personal Space Traveller II, marking the first time these two iconic creations will be displayed together.

This unique horological showcase is a collaborative effort between Phillips and The Hour Glass. It will debut in Singapore in November 2026, coinciding with the opening of IAMWATCH, an event dedicated to the burgeoning independent watchmaking scene—a movement profoundly influenced by Daniels' pioneering spirit. Following its run in Singapore, the exhibition will travel to London in early 2027, offering a second opportunity for admirers to experience this unparalleled display. The Space Traveller watches, both crafted in 1982, hold particular significance; Daniels, regretting the sale of the first, meticulously advanced the concept for the second, incorporating a chronograph for measuring both mean solar and sidereal time. This personal timepiece remained with him until his passing in 2011.

This centennial celebration is more than just an exhibition; it's a profound acknowledgment of George Daniels' enduring impact on watchmaking. His innovations and dedication paved the way for independent watchmakers, inspiring generations to pursue excellence and creativity in horology. The event stands as a testament to his genius, reminding us that true artistry, when combined with relentless passion, leaves an indelible mark on history and continues to inspire future generations to push the boundaries of what is possible.
