The Qatar Diamond Exchange (QDE) has officially joined CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, marking a significant expansion of its global presence. This new affiliation grants QDE status as a National Association Member, extending its international reach beyond the diamond trading sphere to include the broader jewelry, colored gemstone, and diamond industries. This milestone membership was finalized during CIBJO's centennial year, a confederation established in 1926 in Milan, which unites national jewelry associations, trade organizations, and businesses spanning the entire industry value chain, from mining to retail.

CIBJO's foundational work revolves around its 'Blue Books,' which serve as authoritative international standards for diamonds, colored stones, pearls, gemological laboratories, precious metals, and ethical sourcing. As a National Association Member, QDE will actively participate in CIBJO's various sectoral commissions. Its primary focus will be on advocating for and safeguarding the natural diamond sector, enhancing its marketing and promotional initiatives, and communicating the compelling narrative of diamonds to consumers. Ghanim Nasser al-Saadi, Director of QDE, expressed enthusiasm for this partnership, highlighting how it connects Qatar to a century of established standards within the global diamond, gemstone, and jewelry industry. He also emphasized QDE's commitment to active participation in CIBJO's commissions and future endeavors.

This membership further solidifies QDE's international connections, building upon its existing admissions to the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) and the World Diamond Council (WDC). These affiliations collectively position Qatar as a key player among the leading institutions governing the international trade of natural diamonds. They also ensure that QDE's operations adhere to the WDC System of Warranties, the WFDB Code of Conduct, and CIBJO's Blue Book standards. Al-Saadi reiterated QDE's dedication to upholding the integrity of the diamond supply chain and ensuring maximum added value for partners in diamond mining regions through sales and marketing efforts. CIBJO President Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri welcomed QDE, noting Qatar's clear commitment to international standards and responsible trade, which perfectly aligns with the confederation's mission. Launched in July 2026 and situated in the Ras Bufontas Free Zone, QDE provides a comprehensive, regulated platform for diamond transactions and related industry services, fostering connections between Doha and global markets while bolstering Qatar's diamond, colored gemstone, and pearl sectors and contributing to the nation's economic diversification goals under Qatar National Vision 2030.

The integration of the Qatar Diamond Exchange into leading international organizations like CIBJO exemplifies a robust commitment to elevating industry standards and promoting responsible practices. This strategic alignment not only enhances Qatar's standing in the global jewelry market but also fosters a more transparent and ethical environment for all stakeholders. Such collaborative efforts are vital for sustainable growth, ensuring fairness and integrity throughout the value chain, and inspire confidence among consumers worldwide.
