Oct 10, 2026, 2:40 PM

Raymond Weil, a brand established in 1976 by Mr. Raymond Weil amidst the quartz crisis with a vision for accessible, quality timepieces, is now celebrating a significant milestone. Under the leadership of third-generation CEO Elie Bernheim, the company is enjoying renewed success, particularly with its neo-vintage Millesime collection. To honor what would have been the founder’s 100th birthday on October 10th and the brand’s own 50th anniversary, Raymond Weil has unveiled a special 260-piece limited edition: the Freelancer World-Traveller.

Raymond Weil Unveils the Freelancer World-Traveller: A Tribute to Global Exploration and Heritage

In a compelling demonstration of horological artistry and a nod to its rich heritage, Raymond Weil, under the stewardship of CEO Elie Bernheim, has launched the Freelancer World-Traveller. This exquisite timepiece, a limited run of 260 units, was introduced on October 10th, marking a dual celebration: the brand’s 50th anniversary and the centenary of its esteemed founder, Mr. Raymond Weil. Conceived to embody the adventurous spirit of global travel, the watch meticulously displays three distinct temporal layers.

At its core, the Freelancer World-Traveller elegantly presents local time through its central hour, minute, and second hands. A striking red-outlined central GMT hand points to a fixed two-tone 24-hour scale, offering a clear indication of a second time zone. Complementing this, a rotating ring, adorned with the names of 24 global cities, provides "time around the world" functionality. While its aesthetic echoes that of sophisticated world timers, the Freelancer World-Traveller cleverly integrates an independent GMT hand with a manually rotatable city bezel, making advanced timekeeping accessible at a competitive price point, well under CHF 4,000. This innovative design, rooted in an enhanced office-style GMT architecture, allows for independent adjustment of the 24-hour GMT hand in one-hour increments via the crown, and global time can be effortlessly referenced by manually aligning the external city bezel with the static 24-hour ring.

The visual impact of this watch far exceeds its price tag. Its dial boasts a detailed, relief-style world map, inspired by the Mercator projection. This "champagne-colored topography," created using intricate stamping and laser-texturing techniques, beautifully contrasts with the "midnight blue oceans," imbuing the dial with remarkable depth. The 24-hour day/night ring mirrors this color palette, featuring a champagne section for daylight hours and midnight blue for nighttime. The outer ring, also in midnight blue, displays the 24 city names and seamlessly connects to the rotating bezel through an indexed, notched edge. Key elements such as the tips of the applied indices, the hour and minute hands, and the arrow-tipped GMT hand are all treated with Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility. In a personal touch, Mr. Raymond Weil’s handwritten signature replaces the traditional brand logo above the framed date aperture at 6 o’clock.

Encased in a 40mm steel frame, with a slender profile of 10.25mm, the watch features a newly crafted bezel, intricately notched and fluted for superior grip and precise alignment with the city ring. A sapphire crystal on the screw-down caseback offers a captivating view of the RW3230 GMT movement. This automatic caliber, built upon the robust Sellita SW330-2 GMT architecture (a variant of the SW300), operates at 4Hz and boasts an impressive 56-hour power reserve. The timepiece is elegantly finished with a midnight blue leather strap, accented by matching top stitching and secured by a steel folding clasp with double-safety push buttons. This collector’s item is available for CHF 3,995 / EUR 4,395 / USD 4,395.

The release of the Freelancer World-Traveller is more than just the launch of a new watch; it's a profound statement about Raymond Weil's enduring legacy and its forward-looking vision. This timepiece effectively bridges the gap between sophisticated horological complications and everyday wearability, making global timekeeping accessible to a broader audience. It demonstrates that innovation can thrive without sacrificing the core principles of quality and affordability. For watch enthusiasts and casual travelers alike, this limited edition offers a tangible connection to the brand's history while providing a practical and aesthetically pleasing tool for navigating our interconnected world. It reminds us that luxury can be both aspirational and attainable, reflecting the founder's original mission to create "quality watches at affordable prices."
